True genius cannot be replicated, but it can be immortalized through the work of others. Frank Lloyd Wright’s brilliance continues to serve as a muse for modern artists like Frank Korb and Spoke Art. Korb’s watercolor painting “Below the Studio—Taliesin” is the cover art for Voice of the River Valley’s August 2019 issue. And he has been inspired by Wright for years, since his first visit to Taliesin during a 2016 Wisconsin Art Education Association retreat, after which he went on to lead plein air painting field trips for high school students plus serve as a member of the planning board for a 2018 plein air event that happened on the Taliesin estate grounds.
Spoke Art Gallery also recently found their creativity sparked to commission colorful renditions highlighting some of Wright’s most recognizable designs. The pop-up art exhibition, “Frank Lloyd Wright: Timeless,” —organized in collaboration with the Frank Llyod Wright Foundation—first debuted at Taliesin West in June and features original prints from over a dozen international artists, with each piece designed in the style of a 1930s-era Works Progress Administration (WPA) travel poster. The exhibit will next proceed to Wisconsin for a Labor Day weekend show to be kicked off with a opening reception on Friday, August 31.
